What Are the Requirements for Becoming a Foster Parent?
Before you become a foster parent in Prince George County, MD, there are a few requirements you and your household need to meet.
- Be a Prince George’s County resident
- Have an appropriate sleeping space (more than 1 bedroom)
- Complete and pass a fire inspection
- Get medical clearance from a medical professional
- Be over 21 years old
- Have a reliable source of income
- Pass a criminal/CPS background check
- Pass a home sanitation inspection
- Have proof of a US citizenship or permanent residency
- Willing to work with families toward reunification
- Complete the state-mandated 27 hours of pre-service training
- Provide a CPR/First Aid certification
What Is the Process for Becoming a Foster Parent?
There are a few steps to follow to begin your journey towards becoming a foster parent with Prince George’s County Department of Social Services:
- Attend an information meeting
- Meet the program eligibility requirements (submit an application)
- Attend and complete the state-mandated pre-service training
- Complete the home study assessment
